At the Gist Kinsman Ranch, our passion is giant Texas typicals and this is the direction we have influenced a major portion of our program. We traveled the state of Texas the first 3 years of our breeding program in search of very specific does out of what we considered to be proven genetics that had the look we personally enjoyed. Price of these foundation does were not our primary concern. Quality, marketability and predictability of offspring was what we chose because we knew this would place us immediatly where we wanted to be in the marketplace.
This would allow us to achieve our business plan of providing consistent predictability for our customers at a great price. We approached our start up investment with the vision of excellence that we pass on to our customers!
"After your initial capital investment, it costs no more to feed and care for 'super deer' than it does for average deer. So never step over dollars to pick up nickles, because you will spend much more to start over in 5-7 years if you do not like your initial results! Buy the very best quality you can, even if you buy fewer deer than you invisioned. Always consider the 'survivability factor' in all purchases of whitetail deer, because an initial mistake in this business can be very expensive!"
Pure South Texas Pairings
There was very specific criteria that was used when chosing our GKR foundation 'super does'. This included south Texas survivability, big heavy frames, sired by bucks with big B&C scores with a look we liked, and an established predictability of offspring. We feel as though the doe side of the pedigree is as important, and in many cases more important than the buck side of the equation.
With that in mind our GKR foundation Texas does were chosen out of the following Texas Bucks: Renegade 233", Texas Sam 238", Sully 238", Bambi727 262", Bambi Cactus 209", Bambi Daggertine 205", Bambi Double Drop 210", Miracle Buck 200", Abilene 206", Gladiator 303", SackCrete 240", Double Trouble 224", Little Jesse 201", Pluto 224", Wiz 219", Starbuck 217", Magnum 248", Weatherby 230", 257, Pablo 202", Paco 200", Amigo 202", Schulte Buck 200", Bullwinkle 190", Double Down 228"and Vaquero 223".
